broccoli guests

I didn’t want to post this with the broccoli recipe, as I imagine a general rule of food should be not to post pictures of your meal alongside of bugs, like this little guy.

I found him after I had ate my dinner, hanging out in the sink.  I was mildly grossed out, but remembered I had washed my broccoli, so this guy must have fallen off in the process- no biggie, or so I thought.  I turned around and screamed, because behind me was this dude:

I honestly felt like I was being stalked by little green caterpillars.  I’d like to tell you that I moved these little green men out of my apartment, on a nice leaf, for them to munch on and gain their strength to go on and become butterflies, as that was my intent; however, it didn’t quite happen that way.  I figured I’d move them when I went out in an hour, they are caterpillars after all, they weren’t moving, and even if they did, they couldn’t go far, right?  Wrong.  I have no idea where they are.  I looked high and low with no avail.  It’s been 5 days and I can’t find them, so either I now have 2 new roomies (which I hope isn’t the case), or they found their own way out.  Those caterpillars are resourceful little creatures!

Update (10/27/11): A whole week after these guys hid in my apartment, I found them. Despite the fact when I first found them, they were separated by a space that relative to humans would be equal to that of the grand canyon, they somehow found each other. I found one scaling down a kitchen cabinet to meet-up with his accomplice that had already made it to the floor. Needless to say, they were immediately evacuated to the mum outside my apartment. As cute as they are, I don’t think they’d be able to pitch in their fair share of the rent.
